9/11 Moment of Remembrance

The Montclair Township Council passed a resolution on Aug. 17 encouraging residents to memorialize the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks with one minute of reflection, marked by the ringing of bells, sounding of sirens and other actions to remember the lives lost that day.  Lautenberg’s state director, Brendan Gill, addressed the mayor and council prior to the vote and thanked the township for participating in the September 11th Moment of Remembrance initiative.

DAV Building Named After Cdr. Joe Fornarotto

On Saturday, the Belleville-Nutley Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22 celebrated the dedication of their building to Commander Joseph T. Fornarotto.  The building, located at 612 Mill St. in Belleville, was named after the commander for his significant contributions in the planning, fundraising and construction of the three-year-old structure.

Say What? Gill's Campaigning for two...

Thursday night's fundraiser for Brendan Gill, the Democratic candidate for the 5th District seat on the Essex County Board of Freeholders, was as jammed as a wedding reception. In fact, the parking lot at gorgeous Nanina's In The Park was full, so attendees that arrived late [such as The Times] had to park across the street and dodge traffic to get to the leafy Belleville venue.

Winner of the Week

Brendan Gill, the state director for U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) presided over a successful fundraiser Thursday night, where he raised money for his Essex County freeholders’ bid. The highly regarded Gill has the support of Essex County Democratic Chairman Phil Thigpen in his bid to be the freeholder from Montclair. Attending his fundraiser in support were U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-8), state Sen. M. Teresa Ruiz (D-29), and even Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) and Assembly Majority Leader Joe Cryan (D-20).
