Brendan Gill Running for 5th District Freeholder

Nov. 5 1974 was an important day; voters went to the polls in an election that saw the Democrats gain seats in Congress after the wake of the Watergate scandal.

It was also an momentous day in Montclair when residents Daniel Gill, a history teacher, and Michelle Gill, a homemaker, welcomed the birth of their son Brendan Gill. Needless to say, they forgot to cast their votes that day.

Gill Gets Democratic Nod for Freeholder

Brendan Gill has won the nod of the Essex County Democratic organization to run as a freeholder candidate for the 5th District, according to the candidate.  Gill, the state director for U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg and chairman of the Montclair Democratic County Committee, said Tuesday that he recently learned from the Democratic organization that it was giving him its endorsement.  That means that Gill will be running on the same organizational line as Democrats state Sen. Nia Gill, D-34, and Assemblyman Tom Giblin, D-34.

Brendan Gill Mulls Freeholder Run

Saying that Montclair deserves a seat on the Essex County Freeholder Board, Brendan Gill is testing the waters for a run for that office.  Gill, state director for U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, was circulating a petition to get on the ballot in the June primary for freeholder at a fundraiser last Friday for BlueWaveNJ.

Senator Lautenberg and Residents to be Honored by Montclair Democrats

U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg stopped by Montclair High School yesterday to meet fellow recipients of the Montclair Democratic County Committee’s annual community service awards. In addition to the senator — who is being honored for his lifetime of service — awards will go to: Phil Easton, Lead Teacher, Center for Social Justice at Montclair High School; Annya Martin and Hannah Rowe, both MHS seniors; Lonnie Brandon, Chairman, Montclair African American Heritage Committee; and Ted Upshaw (posthumously). Awards will be given at a ceremony on Thursday, October 28 at Valley Regency in Clifton.

Brendan Gill Named to Irish Echo Top 40 Under 40

Following in the foot steps of great Irish American leaders, Brendan Gill, a lifelong resident of Montclair, New Jersey, has dedicated his professional career to public service.  Brendan’s father, a thirty-year middle school history teacher, instilled an early love for politics and government as dinner time conversation often centered around the current political issue of the day.  Gill is a third generation Irish American who traces his roots to his great grandparents who immigrated from County Cork and County Mayo.

Frank Lautenberg names Brendan W. Gill to be his Office's State Director

Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) today announced that Brendan W. Gill will be taking over as his State Director effective January 18.  Gill has served as a Senior Advisor to Senator Lautenberg since 2007.  He also managed Senator Lautenberg's successful 2008 primary and general election campaigns.
