Freeholder Brendan Gill Votes for $455,000 Park Lighting Project

By year's end, Brookdale Park will be fitted with $455,000 worth of new lighting along its inner walking paths.

Gill, a Montclair resident whose district represents Montclair, Bloomfield, Belleville, Glen Ridge and Nutley, told The Times that the project has been a focus of the trust's advisory committee since he was elected to the freeholder board.

In his nearly two years on the board, Gill said that members of his constituency have approached him concerning both the need for lighting in the park and to make sure that the installed lighting does not disturb homeowners living adjacent to the park.


Essex County Breaks Ground on $8.2M Public Works Facility

Brick 19th century buildings that once housed a county hospital will be replaced with a new state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot home for the Essex County Public Works Department, county officials announced this week. “Public Works provides critical support. If they don’t have our vehicles running, then we can’t respond in times of emergency,” Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. Other elected officials on hand to show their support for the project included Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, NJ State Senator and Essex County Deputy Chief of Staff Teresa Ruiz and Essex County Freeholder Brendan Gill.



Brookdale Park will Shine Brighter

New lampposts along walking paths, roadways and parking lots will be installed this fall in the 43-acre park straddling Montclair and Bloomfield, according to Essex County Freeholder Brendan Gill.

The $455,600 project is funded through the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund.

Crowds Turn out for Just a Party

SOFIA Walk Against Domestic Violence

Cynthia Walker, the founder and driving force behind Starting Out Fresh Intervention Advocates (SOFIA), welcomed elected officials and community advocates, as well as domestic violence survivors and their family and friends to the 3rd Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence to raise awareness and remind us all that “with awareness there is hope.”

Freeholder Brendan Gill spoke, as did Deputy Mayor Bob Russo. Mayor Robert Jackson arrived later to cheer on walkers and speak at the post-walk ceremony.


More Green Equals More Green in Anderson Park

The Friends of Anderson Park have received $150,000 through the Green Acres Grant Program, representing a 100 percent match to the conservancy's own fundraising efforts. District 5 Freeholder Brendan Gill, a Montclair resident, told The Times that, upon taking office last year, one of the first things he did was tour Essex County's parks system and meet with conservancy groups.

Last week, Essex County gave local park enthusiasts a reason to celebrate. Montclair’s district freeholder Brendan Gill voted “yes” to allocate $82,500 in grant matching funds toward the development of Anderson Park.


Essex County Freeholders Support Marriage Equality

Montclair's Gill Joins Booker Camp as Senior Advisor

This summer has been anything but a vacation for District 5 Essex County Freeholder and Montclair resident Brendan Gill. As reported in June, Gill - in addition to his duties as freeholder and chairman of the Montclair Democratic County Committee - was tabbed by New Jersey Sen. Barbara Buono to co-chair her campaign. Adding to the collection of different hats he has to wear, Gill has recently come on as senior political adviser for Newark Mayor Cory Booker as the mayor conducts his U.S. Senate race.
